my wife is amazing

There are more times than I would like to admit that I become selfish. Times where I think, "I need a break." It is easy for me to get wrapped up in the issues of "my" world.

Today is another one of those reminders for me just how amazing my wife is. This weekend she is on call. She left the house early this morning, was home for about an hour this afternoon, and is still gone now.

Besides just the time element there are all the people she has to deal with, some of them not so appreciative of what she is doing.

It is another reminder that in our marriage I truly got the good end of the stick. So tonight I am especially thankful for that, for her and the sacrifices she makes for our family.

I find myself doing the same thing. I'll get too wrapped up in the temper tantrums and the crayon marks on the wall to realize that Dustin is making a huge sacrifice by going to work for us. I can guarantee that his idea of fun is not getting up at 5 a.m. to drive 50 miles to work.

I'd also like to say that my family has been one that has been blessed by your wife and her work. When Greta was born Val was on call. We already had a doc for our kids but weren't terribly pleased with who we had. We had been seeing the same person since Miles was born and probably never would have looked into changing. I don't want to sound too corny, but Val coming in to check Greta that day was one of those "God things." The second she walked out the door Dustin and I looked at each other and knew that she was the right choice for us. So, we switched to Val. Then about 5 months later we started going to the Quarry and there you guys were. How crazy is that?

Anyway, we absolutely love her. She's a great doctor. I think what I really appreciate about her is that she's very approachable... you can't say that about all doc's. I sing her praises any time the subject of pediatricians come up.

So, thanks to the whole Welch family for sacrificing your time with Val so that so many of us can count on her in our lives!
